HPU adjunct faculty member Jacob Schafer (seen center, with lei) delivered a keynote presentation to HPU students at Aloha Tower Marketplace.
HPU marked Public Health Week with an excellent keynote presentation delivered on April 4, 2024, at HPU's Aloha Tower Marketplace. Adjunct faculty member Jacob Schafer, MPH, engaged students with insights during his event titled, "My Career in Public Health."
Schafer, whose career spans international arenas and community health initiatives in Hawaiʻi, shared invaluable experiences and wisdom with the students. The timing of the presentation coincided with National Public Health Week, celebrated this year from April 7 to 13. The initiative to host the keynote originated from the collaborative efforts of HPU's Public Health Student Association (PHSA) and the Pre-Health club.
Schafer joined HPU in 2023 and currently holds the position of Director of Infection Control and Employee Health at the Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center. Moreover, he actively contributes to Hawaiʻi's public health landscape as a consultant, offering expertise in epidemiological guidance, preparedness planning, assessments, and exercise facilitation. His dedication to his field earned him a fellowship from the prestigious John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in 2013.
