HPU’s much-anticipated fall production of Women, a modern comedy by Chiara Atik, is set to premiere on November 7 at the university’s Theatre at Aloha Tower Marketplace. Under the direction of Emily Stapleton, MFA, HPU’s Theatre Director, the production showcases an all-student cast and crew, featuring 20 cast members and 18 production team members. Additionally, two HPU alumni have joined the team to help bring the play to life.
Stapleton describes Women as a fresh and humorous take on Little Women, blending elements of modern comedy with the timeless characters of Louisa May Alcott’s classic. “Think of it as ‘Saturday Night Live’ spoofing Little Women,” said Stapleton. “It’s fast-paced, lighthearted, and full of laughs—a great time for everyone.”
The production boasts a talented group of actors including Emma Tiernan, Arya Sarma, Naomi Travis, Daniela Carranza Sánchez, Ailis Nataadiningrat, Hannah Pockett, Brianna Casey, Karisma Carrasco, Benjamin Fricke, and Hayden Cobb.
Additionally, the play features an ensemble of dancers and singers: Michelle M. Buban, Christian Cochiaosue, Isabel Farfan, Carina Frey, Kelsey Kwong, Egypt Holland, Amelia Mohr, Echo Rohner, Kaylee Tan, and Serena Clarke.
Synopsis:
Jo March really thinks she could be the voice of her generation, or at least, a voice of a generation. But being a "little woman" in 1800s New England is just so hard, you know? Showing the world of the beloved March sisters through the lens of HBO's hit series “Girls,” Women is a hilarious, fast-paced contemporary spin on a timeless classic.
