HPU’s Delta Mu Delta (DMD) honors society hosted a special get-together at the Aloha Tower Marketplace, Multipurpose Room 3 (MPR 3), on September 15, 2023. The event served as a warm welcome for DMD members and College of Business students returning to campus, providing students with the opportunity to meet and greet HPU faculty members and HPU College of Business Dean Mark Rosenbaum, Ph.D. The gathering included a warm spread of food from Raising Cane's restaurant.
The DMD event was facilitated and led by Leslie Blood, J.D., M.B.A., lecturer at HPU's College of Business and the advisor for DMD. Blood played a pivotal role in ensuring the success of this event, making it a memorable experience for all attendees.
Shue-Jame Thompson and Dean Mark Rosenbaum spoke to HPU students on the importance of earning a college degree.
A highlight of the evening was the presence of Dr. Shue-Jane Thompson, a distinguished HPU alumna. Thompson was the event’s guest speaker, sharing her insights and wisdom on the importance of pursuing a business degree. She emphasized that while degrees are invaluable, students can set themselves apart by obtaining microcredential certificates.
Recently, HPU initiated a program offering all students the opportunity to enroll in unlimited Coursera Career Academy microcredential certificates that began fall 2023. Thompson's discussion resonated with the audience, offering valuable advice to aspiring business professionals.
Thompson is a current member of CHIEF, a private membership network for senior executive women. With an impressive eight-year tenure at IBM and over 30 years of experience in academia, commercial, government, and international technology and business management, she is a beacon of insight and success.
In addition to her Master of Science in Information Systems (MSIS) degree from HPU, Dr. Thompson holds an ABT Ph.D. in Atmospheric Sciences, two Masters of Science degrees, and a Doctoral Degree in Business Management, showcasing her diverse academic achievements. She also pursued a career in meteorology.
Thompson's passion for education and public speaking is evident through her over 16 years of college and graduate school lecturing. Her commitment to excellence was recognized when she received the Professional Achievement Award at the HPU Paul C. T. Loo Distinguished Alumni Banquet in 2009.
Notably, Thompson served as HPU Adjunct Faculty from 1996 to 1998, and even sent a congratulatory email to former HPU President Wright regarding his retirement in 2010, showcasing her enduring connection with the university.
Membership in the DMD honor society is a testament to high academic standing, as students must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.7 or higher.
