HPU celebrated the achievements of its fall 2022 Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) graduates at their annual pinning ceremony held on December 17, 2022, at the Sheraton Princess Kaiulani hotel.
A total of 53 BSN graduates were recognized at the event that featured HPU Senior Vice President and Provost Jennifer Walsh, Ph.D., HPU Associate Professor of Nursing Hazel Downing, ED.D., RN, HPU Assistant Professor of Nursing and BSN Program Chair Joelle Phillips, DNP, RN, and new Dean of the School of Nursing Edna Magpantay-Monroe, ED.D., APRN, CMDCP.

HPU student nurses’ association president Janina Abdelahad delivered remarks, BSN graduates Brooke Yee and Kiana Yamashiro presented the class gift, HPU Nursing Lecturer Erica Monk, MSN, FNP-C announced the candidates, and HPU Professor of Nursing Patricia Burrell, Ph.D., APRN, BC, CNE recited the “Modern Nightingale Pledge.”
The pinning ceremony is an event to welcome new nursing students into the nursing community. The ceremony represents resilience, pride, honor, and commitment to practicing knowledgeable, ethical, patient-centered care.
HPU’s School of Nursing offers educational programs for the BSN, Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), and the online MSN and online Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degrees; the university also offers four post-master certificate programs.
HPU formally announced the establishment of its new School of Nursing in January 2022 in response to the growth of the University’s nursing program.
