HPU alumnus Justin Coan, RN, recently received a prestigious DAISY Award for his work as a nurse in the telemetry unit at Kaiser Permanente in Sacramento, California. Coan graduated from HPU with his bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) in 2021.

Coan was nominated for the DAISY Award by a patient who emphasized his exceptional care, anticipating needs, and providing exemplary strategies to cope with anxiety spikes.

The DAISY Foundation, renowned for recognizing exceptional nursing care, opens eligibility for its DAISY Award to all licensed and registered nurses, nursing faculty, and students across diverse healthcare settings. Nominees are identified for their extraordinary compassion and can be put forward by patients, family members, colleagues, or students. The selection process involves blinded nominations reviewed by internal committees at partner organizations, focusing on alignment with the organization's mission and values.

Honorees are celebrated with a dedicated event, receiving a certificate, a hand-carved "Healer’s Touch Sculpture" from Zimbabwe, and an honoree pin. Featured on the DAISY Foundation's website, honorees gain access to professional development, education, and wellness benefits, contributing to an ongoing celebration of extraordinary nursing contributions throughout their careers.
