Dr. Ghazwan Hassna.
Dr. Ghazwan Hassna, Associate Professor and Program Chair of the Master of Science in Business Analytics at the College of Business, Hawaiʻi Pacific University, presented a holistic framework for Business Analytics education at the Americas Conference for Information Systems (AMCIS) 2024 in Salt Lake City, Utah. AMCIS is a premier global conference in the field of Information Systems, attracting leading researchers, academics, and industry professionals from around the world.
Hassna’s presentation introduced an innovative approach to Business Analytics education, integrating soft skills, hard skills, professional certificates, and experiential learning. He also showcased how this framework was implemented at HPU to prepare students for the complex demands of data-driven decision-making. The framework is designed not only to equip students with the necessary skills but also to guide academic leaders in building Business Analytics programs that respond to job market demands and workforce development priorities. In addition to presenting this framework, Hassna chaired a session titled "Misinformation and Bias in Social Media" alongside research collaborators from Auckland University, New Zealand. The session featured research papers addressing the critical issues of misinformation and bias on social media platforms, highlighting the importance of international collaboration and rigorous research in tackling these challenges.
Beyond his academic contributions, Hassna is highly active in engaging with the professional community, fostering strong connections between academia and industry. His commitment to bridging these worlds ensures that his work remains relevant and impactful in both educational settings and the broader business environment.
Since arriving in Hawaiʻi, Hassna has been actively engaging with the local community. He has contributed to several local initiatives and has been invited to give numerous talks to organizations including the Hawaiʻi CIO Council, Honolulu Metropolitan Rotary Club, Data Governance Interest Group – Hawaiʻi Summit, and the International Institute for Business Analysis (IIBA), thereby strengthening connections between academia and the local business community.
Hassna’s achievements are further underscored by his recognition as the winner of four institutional awards, including the prestigious Golden Apple Award for Innovative Graduate Curriculum and Program Design in 2022.
