Access Pakistan Teacher Training and Cultural Exchange Program.
The Hawaiʻi Pacific University TESOL Program (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages), Department of English and Applied Linguistics, College of Liberal Arts, has been awarded a grant from the US Department of State to host 25 teachers of English from Pakistan.
The Access Pakistan Teacher Training and Cultural Exchange Program, funded by the English Access Microscholarship Program Pakistan, will run from October 30 to November 12, 2024, focusing on experiential learning in language education. The program includes a rich array of activities, from academic workshops and guest presentations to hands-on service learning and cultural activities.
The program is led by Principal Investigator Hanh Nguyen, Ph.D., Professor of Applied Linguistics, who serves as the Academic Director of the program. Christy Williams, Ph.D., Professor of English and Chair of the Department of English and Applied Linguistics, is the program Administrative Director. Maria Levy, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Applied Linguistics, is the Cultural Activities Coordinator. Ann "Diane" Choe, Ph.D., instructor and expert in service learning and experiential learning, is the Lead Instructor of the academic workshops. HPU undergraduate and graduate students will assist with the program while gaining valuable training experiences.
