HPU President and University of Hawai‘i William S. Richardson School of Law alumnus John Gotanda, J.D., was selected as the next Leader-in-Residence at the William S. Richardson School of Law’s “Island Leadership Lab Seminar.” The Lab was launched in fall 2021 and is described as an immersive leadership experience that was developed to prepare the next generation of leaders.
Gotanda was born and raised in Hawai‘i, and is a graduate of Roosevelt High School, the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa (BBA, 1984), and the William S. Richardson School of Law (1987), where he was Editor-in-Chief of the University of Hawai‘i Law Review. He has been president of HPU since 2016.
Gotanda is recognized as one of the world’s leading authorities on damages in international law, and has been cited by courts, tribunals and commentators, including the U.S. Supreme Court. He has spoken widely on the subjects of damages, international arbitration, and international sales law, including the Hague Academy of International Law. Gotanda has also served as an expert on damages and an arbitrator in international investment disputes.
According to the UH Law School website, the new Lab “is the result of a unique collaboration between Law School alumni, Law School leaders, and volunteer ‘Leaders in Residence’ who will share insight gained over decades of service with law students about to embark on their careers.”
Co-instructors Dean Camille Nelson and Noelani Kalipi, Esq., are joined by several Leaders-in-Residence for this unique, immersive leadership experience.
The Island Leadership Lab Seminar runs through November 19, 2022.
