HPU's newly redesigned Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree is a dynamic, accelerated one-year program that focuses on skills-based learning, which according to Forbes is one of the top workforce movements. Organizations worldwide are challenged with hiring skilled workers, so it has become paramount for MBA programs to rework their curriculum for the 21st century.
HPU’s restructured MBA is centered on embedding workforce skills into numerous facets of the program, offering a forward-looking approach that aligns graduates with the evolving needs of the professional landscape. What once took two years to complete now takes one, and students have the option to learn in-person or online. HPU students will earn two industry-leading microcredential certificates along with their MBA degree through Coursera Career Academy.
HPU College of Business Dean Mark Rosenbaum, Ph.D., envisioned an even further expanded trajectory for the MBA program, surpassing conventional boundaries. His vision materialized through the introduction of interdisciplinary HPU graduate certificates, adding to the already distinguished Coursera Career Academy microcredential certificates. Collaborating with Jana Stern, HPU Director of Graduate Admissions and Admissions Operations, Rosenbaum meticulously crafted the HPU certificates to qualify for financial aid and strategically aligned them within the dynamic landscape of skills-based market demands.

The culmination of these efforts resulted in the launch of the MBA+ in the fall of 2023, ushering in a new era of comprehensive, skills-based business education at HPU.
“Our new MBA+ ensures that our students understand the functions of an organization by earning an advanced certification in the field of their choosing,” Rosenbaum said. “This certification will provide students with a specialization when they graduate. The one-year MBA is considered a generalized, accelerated degree, and the MBA+ will go further, providing graduates with a certification that will be included on their college transcripts. This really is the MBA for the modern world.”
Students can choose from eight HPU graduate certificates that include business analytics; environment, policy, and leadership; global leadership and sustainable development; national security and strategic studies; nonprofit management; organizational development and leadership; sustainability and security studies; and teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL).
Coursera Career Academy microcredential certificates range from project manager, social media marketer, application developer, data engineer, bookkeeper, UX designer, career coach, and network engineer. There are currently 29 microcredentials to choose from and students learn from industry leaders like Meta, Google, IBM, and Salesforce.
An MBA student who graduates fall 2023 recently shared with Rosenbaum that one of the most impactful aspects of his MBA experience at HPU was the opportunity to participate in Coursera Career Academy.
