Master of Education in Educational Leadership – Become an Administrative Leader in Education
- You will be the recipient of a unique partnership between University faculty, teachers, and principals to deliver an innovative curriculum that has been designed to develop professional educators who are reflective practitioners dedicated to the scholarship of teaching and learning and school renewal.
- Instructional Design or Education Leadership concentrations available! You will be prepared to become a leader in training, development and innovative teaching.
- Online and hybrid courses are held in 8-week terms, with the exception of your capstone project which runs the entire summer semester.
- You will complete the program with a capstone research course grounded in your concentration of study.

Your journey to becoming a leader in education begins here! The Master of Education in Educational Leadership (MEDEL) prepares graduates to become administrative leaders in classrooms, schools and higher education institutions. Guided by a profound belief in active, collaborative, experiential, reflective, and transformative learning as well as a deep commitment to diversity and educational technology, this degree program is based on an innovative, inquiry-oriented, standards-driven, and field-based curriculum that integrates content and pedagogy. In addition, HPU provides teachers with cutting-edge, course-web-page technology tools and access to online periodical databases in education.
Participants will have an opportunity to become educational leaders through this comprehensive preparation program, which includes ten 3-credit courses and an action research capstone project. Courses will expose students to current educational issues related to diversity, social justice, technology, budgeting, legal issues, etc. and trends. With six, 8-week terms, students can complete their program of study in one year taking two classes each term. Part-time options are also available.
Students who complete the Master of Education in Educational Leadership will:
- Use assessment strategies to evaluate and ensure the continuous intellectual, social, and physical development of the learner. Students will use the formal and informal assessment strategies to evaluate and ensure the continuous intellectual, social, and physical development of the learner.
- Understand diversity and provide equal learning opportunities. Use an understanding of individual and group motivation and behavior to create a learning environment that encourages positive social interaction, active engagement in learning, and self-motivation. Students will understand how students differ in their approaches to learning and create instructional opportuities that are adapted to diverse learners to support their intellectual, social, and personal development.
- Research, evaluate, and use a variety of instructional strategies. Students will research, evaluate and use a variety of instructional strategies to encourage students' development of critical thinking, problem solving, and performance skills.
- Use effective communication to foster active inquiry. Students will use effective verbal, nonverbal, and media communication techniques to foster active inquiry, collaboration, and supportive interaction in the classroom.
- Become reflective practitioners. Students will become reflective practitioners who continually evaluate the effects of their choices and actions on others (students, parents, and other professionals in the learning community) and who actively seek out opportunities to grow professionally.
- Capstone Research. Understand, analyze, evaluate, and apply the central concepts, tools of inquiry, and structures of the discipline(s) he or she teaches and can create a capstone research that makes these aspects of subject matter meaningful for students.
