Lecturer, First-Year Writing and Ho‘okō Rising Scholars Program

Julian teaches first-year writing at HPU and has taught literature, creative writing, French, and other subjects at various other universities. He founded an organization that has published around 50 books and 7 documentary films about comic books and popular culture. His own publications on popular culture include the first book ever published on Christopher Nolan's Batman films. He also writes comic books and prose literature. In addition, he co-hosts a podcast on sci-fi movies and TV, as well as an upcoming podcast on Akira Kurowsawa.

 

He's open about his struggles with depression and strongly believes in destigmatizing mental illness. He loves animals and can usually measure his happiness by the number of feet to the ocean.
