Dr. Elizabeth Torres, is originally from the vibrant Bay Area, and spent most of her life on the West Coast before moving to Kansas City to pursue her Doctorate degree in occupational therapy and start her career as an OT.
Dr. Torres holds a variety of clinical experience across diverse OT settings including acute, inpatient, home health, skilled nursing, and long-term care. Dr. Torres’ passion for rehabilitation and commitment to serving the aging community propelled her to attain certifications as a Certified Aging in Place Specialist (CAPS) and Environmental and Home Modification Specialist (ECHM).
An OT at heart, Dr. Torres continues to practice as an occupational therapist and seamlessly integrates her real-world insights into the academic realm, enriching the learning experience for her students. Her journey into academia was paved early with the completion of her Doctoral Capstone in Teaching and OT education at the University of Kansas.
Dr. Torres remains deeply engaged in the occupational therapy community, actively participating in Kansas and Missouri state associations, and the American Occupational Therapy Association. Dr. Torres has contributed significantly as a volunteer, presenter, and scholarly contributor. Dr. Torres scholarly interests revolve around Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Justice, and Belonging in OT education and the aging population.
Outside of her professional commitments, Dr. Torres treasures quality time with her loved ones. As a former athlete, she sustains her passion for sports. A few of her favorite occupations include adventuring outdoors with her two furry companions, relaxing by the beach and recreating of her favorite culinary dishes inspired by the Food Network.
