BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Mary Smith is the track coordinator for the Adult Geriatric Acute Care NP program and the Doctor of Nursing Practice program. She has been a registered nurse for 30 years with over 13 years of experience in academic teaching and health policy. Dr. Smith is a published author in several peer reviewed journals and textbook chapters. She has also presented locally and nationally. Dr. Smith has a background in telehealth technology, interdisciplinary care coordination and patient-centered care that she uses to guide policy and program development that promotes quality improvement, safety, and healthcare access among vulnerable populations such as the rural elderly and disabled homebound populations in medically underserved and healthcare provider shortage areas. Dr. Smith is a National Rural Health Association Policy Fellow, in addition to a National Academies of Practice Policy Fellow in Nursing and Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. She is also serving in the first cohort of Clinical Champions for the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Service to lead change and conceptualize practice transformation for Medicare Part B clinicians as it applies to the Quality Payment Program, in addition to assisting CMS in exploring effective communication methods with clinicians. Dr. Smith also has academic experience in teaching masters and doctoral level nursing students pursing education to become a nurse practitioner.
