STUDENTS WHO ARE REQUIRED TO SHOW PROOF OF INSURANCE INCLUDE:
INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
International students are required to have health insurance as a condition of enrollment at the University. If a student has coverage, they need to provide adequate proof by completing the International Student Health Insurance Waiver . The waiver verifies that students have health insurance and comparable coverage through another insurance plan.
F-1 students: Please do not send your actual policy coverage, as we will not be able to accept it in place of the International Student Health Insurance Waiver form.
For assistance in filling out the form, please refer to the health insurance waiver form example.
WAIVERS MUST BE SUBMITTED TO THE OFFICE OF INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS AND SCHOLARS (Student services center, 500 Ala Moana Blvd, STE. 5A OR ISS@HPU.EDU) BY EACH SEMESTER DEADLINE TO RECEIVE CLEARANCE FOR THE HEALTH INSURANCE REQUIREMENT AND AVOID THE MEDICAL INSURANCE VERIFICATION FEE.
DEADLINE: required at least two-weeks before the semester start date.
Students who submit a waiver for the fall semester will automatically waive insurance for the spring semester (and summer term if taking classes) as long as the waiver shows coverage during those enrolled terms. For more information about HPU’s student health insurance waiver, please call the staff at the Office of International Students and Scholars at (808) 356-5299.

Medical Plan Options
TAKE SOME TIME TO RESEARCH VARIOUS PLANS AND COMPARE BENEFITS. IT IS IMPORTANT TO PURCHASE A PLAN THAT MEETS YOUR HEALTH NEEDS AND IF APPLICABLE, HPU'S COVERAGE REQUIREMENTS (AS DETERMINED BY YOUR STUDENT STATUS NOTED ABOVE). BEFORE YOU START, UNDERSTAND YOUR HEALTH INSURANCE POLICY TERMINOLOGY:
- Premium = the amount you pay to purchase your insurance coverage
- Deductible = the amount you must pay before the insurance company starts to pay for your medical expenses
- Copayment/coinsurance = the amount/percentage that you must pay for services
International Students
International students may consider several options from the sample list of potential coverage providers below. The University does not recommend nor endorse any particular coverage provider. Students should also research for coverage providers on their own via the internet.
Select the appropriate provider and plan that best fits your needs. Read the benefit plan for coverage details and verify it meets HPU's minimum coverage requirements. Note that if you have pre-existing conditions, they are covered after 6 months. In addition, these plans do not cover sports related injuries.
