Why HPU for MSN-FNP?

Would you like to be able to diagnose and treat patients in a variety of settings including doctor’s office, clinics, and hospital? If so you should consider continuing your education to become a certified family nurse practitioner (FNP). In many states certified family nurse practitioners can practice autonomously. FNPs are highly sought after as the number of general family practitioners decrease because these highly trained nurses are able to care for patients across the lifespan. The FNPs ability to focus on promotion of health and disease prevention in primary care settings results in improving the quality of life with individual care.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The MSN FNP at HPU (available on-campus and online) is a fully accredited 45 credit Masters in Nursing degree with a track population focus in Family, covering all ages across the lifespan this makes the FNP certification the most marketable degree. This is a face to face program with many individual classes augmented with online and hybrid formats. The core MSN programs are taking the first year generally 2 afternoon classes per week if full time and over 2 years if taken part time. The FNP track specific courses are taken after completion of the 18 credit core courses, and these are taken full time 9 credit/term at the graduate level. This allows students to complete the didactic primary care courses prior to starting the practicum placements. In the on-campus program, the FNP coordinator assists with securing practicum site; however, students are encouraged to locate practicum sites. Practicum courses can be completed in the summer.
