Admissions Requirements

Admissions Requirements

HPU understands that each student has a unique academic history and individual talents. This is why we take a holistic approach to reviewing applications, and consider all the information provided on your application to make an admissions decision.

We consider:

  • Grade Point Average - GPA

  • SAT and/or ACT scores (or English Proficiency if educated outside of the US)

  • Extracurricular activities

  • Personal statement (essay) and/or resume

  • Academic area of interest

test optional:

Students may apply without submitting standardized test scores from the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or American College Testing (ACT) . While tests help to predict your potential for success in college, your academic performance in the classroom is the most important factor in our review of your application. We also consider qualitative factors, such as your essay, letters of recommendation, and extracurricular activities.

RECOMMENDED COURSES:

  • 4 years of English
  • 3 years of History or Social Science
  • 3 years of Math
  • 3 years of Natural Science
  • 2 years of Foreign Language

Home School:

HPU recognizes that homeschooled students bring unique qualities, and welcomes applications from students who have been home-schooled for some or all of their education. HPU considers a home-school student if the majority of your high school career has taken place, or if your high school career will conclude, outside of the traditional academic setting.  If a student is following an accredited home school program, the published curriculum is required as part of the review process. Transcripts from any coursework taken at a traditional high school or at the college-level during the student’s high school career are also required if applicable.

Students much submit an official transcript that outlines the home school curriculum. It must include:

  • Course Name/Title
  • Length of Study
  • Course Description
  • Grade

The more information that can be provided or documented will assist the admission committee with academic context. This may include but not limited to syllabi, and complete reading lists and method(s) of instruction.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED IF AVAILABLE TO YOU:

  • Honors courses
  • Advanced Placement (AP)  courses
  • International Baccalaureate (IB)  program courses

Students who have taken AP  and IB  examinations should have their official scores sent to the Office of Admissions to be evaluated for advanced standing and/or academic credit.
