Summer and Winter Aid
HAWAI‘I PACIFIC UNIVERSITY SUMMER GRANT – SUMMER 2024
Hawai‘i Pacific University will provide an Institutional Summer Grant for select undergraduate students to assist with tuition expenses for academic courses attended during the summer term. Consideration for summer grant will automatically be awarded to all registered students enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours for courses within the College of Business, College of Professional Studies, College of Health and Society (Pre-Nursing, Public Health, Social Work only), College of Liberal Arts, or College of Natural and Computational Science, who are not receiving other significant external or internal funding. In addition, students planning to enroll in an approved Study Abroad program through HPU may qualify for the Summer Grant. Recipient students must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress standards and be degree-seeking with a cumulative GPA of 2.00 or greater.
Register for summer classes by April 1 to be automatically included in the first group of awards reviewed for priority consideration. Students registered no later than May 8 will be considered in the second group of awards if there are remaining funds.
AWARD AMOUNTS FOR SUMMER 2024:
6 - 8 credits = $2,050
9 - 11 credits = $3,050
12+ credits = $4,050
KAMA'AINA SUMMER GRANT
Kama‘aina students who are not current HPU students, but would like to take summer classes here, are eligible for this grant based on your or your parent’s Hawaii state ID. The Kama'aina grant is open to anyone taking undergraduate courses as special status (non-degree seeking) students.
AWARD AMOUNTS FOR SUMMER 2024:
6 - 8 credits = $1,500
9 - 11 credits = $2,400
12+ credits = $3,600
To apply please email financialaid@hpu.edu referencing "Kama'aina Summer Grant" in the subject and including a copy of your valid Hawaii State ID/drivers license, student name, and HPU student ID number.
TERM Financial Aid
Summer enrollments can apply for and receive financial aid; however, the eligibility will vary by student. If you are currently receiving merit or need-based financial aid you should consult with the financial aid office if your anticipated enrollment plan is for fewer than 6 credits. A financial aid counselor will be able to tell you any effects that less than 6 credits will have to your aid eligibility. If you received HPU merit scholarships, and/or need-based financial aid for the Fall/Spring Academic year, these funds may not be available for the summer term. The combined total of all merit and need-based awards cannot exceed tuition and fees.
In general, Federal Pell Grant (PELL) eligible students can also receive an additional 50% of their award depending on the credits scheduled for the summer term. All students who were 2023/2024 PELL eligible will be reviewed for additional Pell funds upon completing registration for summer credits.
The Pell Grant Award is based on a student's Estimated Family Contribution (EFC) from the FAFSA
- Aggregate PELL Grant lifetime award cannot exceed 600% (6 years or 12 semesters of full-time)
- You must have a 2023/2024 FAFSA and valid Student Aid Report on file to be considered for Summer Aid
If, for example, you were enrolled for 12 or more credits in Spring 2024 term and received FPELL funds, the summer eligibility could be up to ½ of the award if enrolled for 6 credits.
If you have not used all your Federal Direct Student Loan eligibility for the current school year, you may apply to use your remaining eligibility. ALL students may apply for credit-based alternative/private loans. In addition, graduate students may apply for loan funding through the Graduate PLUS loan program. Dependent students may have parents apply for additional funding through the Parent PLUS loan program. To be eligible for loan funding you must register for a minimum of 6 credits over the combined summer term(s). All students seeking financial aid during summer terms must be making satisfactory academic progress. Please complete the Summer Request Form and submit it to the Financial Aid Office along with a copy of your summer course schedules. The deadline to request summer aid is July 15th.
WINTER TERM
The Financial Aid Office does not process any federal aid for the Winter term. Students will be responsible for tuition and other charges for registered credits in winter term.
